The Bavarian automaker has officially unveiled the BMW i8 and i3 today, though numerous photos and video that describe the technology behind these green concepts, which will be seen in the flesh at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.


Both the BMW i8 and the i3 make use of electrical engines but use different propulsion methods, which we will describe in separate articles.

The BMW i8 can recharge at any standard power outlet, and can cover up to 35 Km when using just electricity. Based on BM's claims, the i8 is a car that concentrates on its driver which is practical enough to be used on a daily basis. Its LifeDrive architecture has been adapted to enhance performance and maximise efficiency, and the car can behave like a four-wheel-drive vehicle due to its engines which can operate both axles simultaneously.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that a part near the left wheel can fracture and cause a loss of steering control, leading to crashes.

The problem happens mainly at low speeds when drivers are making tight turns. Chrysler says only a few minor crashes and one minor injury have been reported.

The problem also can affect 2003-08 Ram 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty models in which the same part was replaced by mechanics.

Chrysler dealers will inspect the trucks and fix the defect for free if necessary.

2011 Chevrolet Cruze

The base 1.8-liter model with the manual is rated at 30 mpg, but only 27 mpg with the automatic, and the non-Eco 1.4-liter with automatic betters that slightly, at 28 mpg combined.

2011 Kia Forte Koup SX Review

The Forte Koup is a nice-looking car, even if I'm not a fan of the electric blue on this particular test vehicle. Inside, the coupe is very hospitable, with a black leather interior that is saved from being too dour by red stitching along the edges of the seats and a nicely laid out instrument panel that has orange/red backlighting. When I first climbed into the car I was happy to see that it had a manual gearbox -- oh, wait, it's an automatic that's masquerading as a manual, with a leather sleeve around the base of the shifter. Oh well, at least it has six forward speeds rather than the five with which it was introduced a year earlier. And this SX model has the 174-hp four-cylinder rather than the 156-hp base engine, so it's got an extra dose of power.


As I commented when I first drove a Forte (sedan) almost exactly two years ago, the car's performance isn't exactly ground-breaking, but the Forte is still a satisfying car to drive, with a solid feel and a good sense of style.

2012 Mercedes-Benz B-Class coming in Australia

The first details of the upcoming 2012 Mercedes-Benz B-Class have been revealed ahead of the compact MPV’s world premiere at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

The second-generation B-Class will hit European showrooms in November.

Mercedes-Benz Australia’s Jerry Stamoulis confirmed the new B-Class would arrive in Australia in the second quarter of 2012.

Mr Stamoulis said timing of the smaller, all-new third-generation A-Class had not yet been confirmed, but said it was likely to reach local showrooms about 12 months after the B-Class, around mid-2013.

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed two new turbocharged four-cylinder engines in four different tunes will be available from launch (depending on the market).

The petrol engine is a completely new design. The 2012 Mercedes-Benz B 180 will feature a 90kW/200Nm 1.6-litre engine, while the new B 200 will get a 115kW/250Nm tune. Both will produce maximum torque from a super-low 1250rpm.
